Parliamentary Finance Cluster to Host Post-Budget Media Briefing

Cape Town – 19 May 2025 — Parliamentary oversight leaders from both the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces will address the media on Thursday, 22 May 2025, following the presentation of the 2025 National Budget by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

The briefing will feature five Chairpersons of key Finance Cluster committees, each focusing on distinct areas of fiscal oversight and policy direction in response to the newly tabled budget.

Dr Joe Maswanganyi, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance, is expected to address the budget’s emphasis on pro-poor policies and the need to sharpen focus on economic growth and development.

Mr Songezo Zibi, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA), will speak on the changing composition of government expenditure and the need to improve spending quality and efficiency.

Ms Tidimalo Legwase, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Appropriations, will discuss Parliament’s oversight of government spending and the legislative processing of the Division of Revenue Bill.

Ms Sanny Ndhlovu, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Finance, is set to comment on increases in municipal budgets and the funding of initiatives that improve communication access in rural communities.

Mr Mmusi Maimane, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Appropriations, will address issues related to economic growth, government debt levels, and public sector efficiency.

The media briefing will provide further insights into Parliament’s interpretation of the 2025 Budget and its implications for oversight, service delivery, and fiscal governance.
