The inauguration of the new CNE building was carried out this Friday (27th) by the acting President of the National Assembly, Armindo João da Luz.
The new headquarters of the CNE, the National Elections Commission, is located in Prainha. The “democratic” building, made of reinforced concrete and imposing, will, as of today, come to life with its servants, in the words of President Maria do Rosário Pereira Gonçalves, for whom there is no quality of elections if there is also no quality of servers and the conditions in which they work.
In these 27 years, the president of the CNE has positively evaluated the performance of the Commission, despite recognizing that there is still much to be done so that the institution fully fulfills its attributions.
The Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, was present at the inauguration, who says she is proud of the work of the Commission and of the team that, underlined, “has done and will continue to do a good job”. On the part of the Commission, assured the minister, “there was always total openness and full collaboration”.
Joana Rosa emphasizes that there are now conditions for reforms, such as the amendment of the Electoral Code, with a view to strengthening the CNE’s powers so that elections can take place in a free and orderly manner.
For the official, “integrity and wisdom have been the main hallmarks of the CNE”.
The inauguration of the CNE headquarters was presided over by the President of the National Assembly in office. Armindo João da Luz considers that the new facilities “allow CNE greater functionality, more comfort, better privacy and prospects for better results in fulfilling its functions”.
The President of the National Assembly in office congratulated the CNE on the conquest of the new headquarters so “modern, honorable, beautiful, good, functional and conveniently equipped”, whose inauguration was attended by the former Presidents of the National Assembly, Basílio Mosso Ramos and António Espírito Santo. , and a tribute to the Vice-President of the CNE, Amadeu Barbosa, who died in 2021.
It should be remembered that the CNE (National Elections Commission) is an external body of the National Assembly.
