Buhari Seeks Senate’s Confirmation of 19 Nominees As INEC Commissioners
President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate seeking the confirmation of 19 Nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The confirmation request to the Upper Legislative Chamber was contained in a letter dated 25th July, 2022. The letter was read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s July 26, 2022 plenary session by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
President Buhari, said that the request for the confirmation of the Nominees was in accordance with the Provisions of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
He explained that the nomination of five (5) Resident Electoral Commissioners were for renewal, while the other fourteen (14) were fresh appointments.
The Nominees forwarded for confirmation include: Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa State – Renewal); Obo O. Effanga (Cross River State – Renewal); Alh. Umar Ibrahim (Taraba State – Renewal); Dr. Agboke Mutiu Olaleke (Ogun State – Renewal); and Prof. Samuel E. Egwu (Kogi State – Renewal).
Others include: Onyeka Pauline Ugochi (Imo State); Prof. Muhammad Lawal Bashir (Sokoto State); Prof. Ayobami Salami (Oyo State); Amb. Zango Abdussamadu Abdu (Katsina State); Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Agwu (Ebonyi State); and Dr. Agundu Oliver Tersoo (Benue State).
Also to be confirmed include: Yomere Gabriel Oritsemlebi (Delta State); Prof. Yahaya Makarfi Ibrahim (Kaduna); Dr. Nura Ali (Kano State); Agu Sylvia Uchenna (Enugu State); Ahmed Yushau Garki (FCT); Barr. Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi State); Prof. Uzochukwu Ikemefuna Chijioke (Anambra State); and Mohammed B. Nura (Yobe State).
