Parliamentary Agenda for the Week of 8 September 2024
Sunday, 8 September 2024 – Parliament: President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to address delegates from the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Thursday at 14:00. The President will field questions on several critical issues, including the government’s strategies to combat poverty and unemployment, the signing of the Health Compact Bill, and measures to address business extortion.
On Tuesday, the NCOP will conduct a ministerial briefing session at 10:00 focusing on the challenges associated with infrastructure delivery to communities. Later the same day at 14:00, the National Assembly (NA) will hold a hybrid sitting to review a draft notice and schedule concerning the salaries, allowances, and benefits of the Commission for Gender Equality members. Additionally, the House will deliberate on a draft resolution discussed during a mini-plenary on 6 September regarding a proposed parliamentary investigation into the impact of extortion in South Africa.
On Wednesday at 15:00, Cluster 3 ministers—including the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Minister in the Presidency (GCIS), Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, the Minister of Public Service and Administration, and the Minister of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities—will answer questions in the National Assembly.
Thursday will mark the beginning of the NA’s two-day strategic planning session, concluding on Friday at 13:00. This session aims to establish goals and objectives for the 7th term of Parliament.
