The African National Congress (ANC) and ActionSA held formal talks on Tuesday in a bid to break the deadlock over the national budget, with both parties reaffirming a shared commitment to fiscal stability and protecting vulnerable South Africans.

The meeting, led by ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula and ActionSA President Herman Mashaba, was described as “frank and cordial.” It underscored the urgency of resolving the current budget impasse in a way that upholds service delivery and sound fiscal governance.

Key to the discussion was a proposed VAT increase, with both parties agreeing to explore alternative solutions and committing not to implement any changes before 1 May 2025. The engagement focused solely on fiscal and budgetary matters, with no additional issues brought to the table.

A follow-up meeting is expected in the coming week as part of the ongoing effort to find a resolution.

The ANC reiterated its commitment to inclusive parliamentary engagement, emphasizing the importance of national interest, accountability, and economic recovery. The party affirmed its intention to resolve the impasse in a manner that preserves stability, protects developmental priorities, and fosters responsible cooperation in Parliament.
