The African National Congress (ANC) has strongly condemned the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) court bid against section 15A of the Employment Equity Amendment Act (EEAA), labelling it a betrayal of South Africa’s constitutional commitment to redress and transformation.
In a statement, the ANC accused the DA of distorting the aims of the EEAA, which introduces sector-specific targets to address racial imbalances in employment. The governing party argued that the legislation is not about quotas, but about creating a fair platform for all South Africans by correcting historic injustices and systemic exclusion under apartheid.
The ANC reiterated that the Constitution recognises the need for substantive equality and corrective measures, and warned that the DA’s actions threaten to preserve apartheid-era privileges under the guise of merit and constitutionalism.
Calling on civil society, unions, and youth formations to resist the DA’s efforts, the ANC affirmed its commitment to defending transformation and building a non-racial, just society.
