Parliamentary Oversight Committees to Brief Media on Economic Cluster Progress
Parliamentary oversight committees within the Economic Cluster will provide a media briefing on Monday, March 31, 2025, as part of the 7th Parliament’s Weekly Committee Cluster Media Engagement programme. The session aims to highlight the committees’ work in strengthening oversight, advancing legislation, and enhancing public participation.
Since its launch in November 2024, the weekly media engagement initiative has played a crucial role in promoting transparency and keeping the public informed about Parliament’s activities. The upcoming Economic Cluster briefing will focus on key developments within five oversight committees:

Portfolio Committee on Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment – Oversees the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, focusing on legislation, budget reviews, performance monitoring, and international compliance.

Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development – Supervises the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development, along with related entities such as the Agricultural Research Council, Ingonyama Trust Board, and the Office of the Valuer-General.

Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development – Ensures the effective operation of the Department of Small Business Development and its agencies, including SEDA and SEFA, to promote small business growth.

Select Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform, and Mineral Resources – Oversees multiple government departments, scrutinizing legislation and conducting oversight on agriculture, land reform, and mineral resources.

Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade – Monitors the Department of Economic Development and Trade, as well as entities such as the Competition Commission, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and the South African Micro-finance Apex Fund.
The briefing will be led by committee chairpersons Nqabisa Gantsho, Mangaqa Mncwango, Masefako Dikgale, Mpho Modise, and Sonja Boshoff. Discussions will focus on March oversight activities, strategic oversight approaches, intensified scrutiny measures, and recent findings from Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
