This morning, Mozambique’s Assembly of the Republic passed a general approval of revisions to the Organic Law of the Constitutional Council. The revised law includes a new provision that allows the Constitutional Council to hire seasonal employees for a period of up to six months as needed to undertake specific tasks. This amendment is expected to enhance the institution’s flexibility and efficiency in managing temporary workload surges or special projects.

In addition to the Constitutional Council amendments, the Assembly is set to address another significant piece of legislation today. The proposed revision to the Public Probity Law is also on the agenda. This amendment introduces a new requirement for all officers within the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the Municipal Police to declare their assets. This obligation applies regardless of whether the officers hold leadership positions or not, aiming to increase transparency and combat corruption within the force.

The changes to the Public Probity Law reflect a broader effort to improve accountability and integrity in Mozambique’s public sector. By mandating asset declarations from all police personnel, the government seeks to ensure that those entrusted with maintaining law and order are held to higher standards of financial transparency.

Today’s legislative actions mark a crucial step in Mozambique’s ongoing efforts to reform its institutional frameworks and enhance public sector governance. The approval of these revisions signals a commitment to improving the operational capabilities of key institutions and reinforcing measures to prevent corruption.
