Cape Town, Tuesday, 26 November 2024 – The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and the National Assembly (NA) are set to engage in key parliamentary activities tomorrow, focusing on ministerial briefings and oral question-and-answer sessions.

The NCOP will host a Ministerial Briefing session at 14:00 involving five Ministers, while the NA will conduct an oral Q&A session with Ministers from the Economics Cluster at 15:00.

NCOP Ministerial Briefing

The Ministers scheduled to present at the NCOP session are:

  • Ms. Barbara Creecy, Minister of Transport, addressing the roadmap for stabilizing Transnet’s performance, reforming logistics systems, and improving ports and rail transportation.
  • Mr. Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, detailing measures to rejuvenate South Africa’s cultural and creative industries economy.
  • Mr. Leon Schreiber, Minister of Home Affairs, on digital transformation initiatives aimed at enhancing public service efficiency.
  • Mr. Senzo Mchunu, Minister of Police, presenting updates on the crime prevention policy and the national crime prevention strategy aimed at strengthening the South African Police Service for safer communities.
  • Ms. Maropene Ramokgopa, Minister of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, elaborating on the implementation of crime prevention strategies.

NA Oral Questions

The National Assembly will host a Q&A session with nine Ministers from the Economics Cluster, representing portfolios including Agriculture, Communications and Digital Technologies, Electricity and Energy, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Employment and Labour, Mineral and Petroleum Resources, International Relations and Cooperation, and Finance.

The session forms part of Parliament’s constitutional mandate to hold the Executive accountable, as per Section 92(2) of the Constitution, which requires Cabinet members to account for their powers and functions individually and collectively.

  • A report by the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs regarding the remuneration of members of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities, effective 1 April 2023.
