President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to lead South Africa’s delegation at the 55th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The event, running from 20 to 24 January 2025, gathers global leaders to tackle pressing issues under the theme, “Collaboration in the Intelligent Age.”

The forum aims to explore how collaboration can help address the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements, fostering a sustainable and inclusive future. Key discussions will focus on navigating geopolitical tensions, promoting economic growth, and ensuring a just and inclusive energy transition.

For South Africa, the WEF provides an opportunity to showcase the country’s technological innovation as a driver of economic development and societal progress. By leveraging advancements in technology, South Africa hopes to promote inclusive growth, enhance global competitiveness, and modernise industries. The delegation also aims to highlight the country’s efforts in advancing skills development and improving public services.

A major focus of President Ramaphosa’s address will be the economic priorities of South Africa’s Government of National Unity, alongside the country’s ongoing role as the chair of the G20, which is themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” South Africa intends to use this platform to promote economic growth that is both inclusive and environmentally responsible, addressing systemic disparities and advocating for global solidarity in tackling shared challenges.

The WEF serves as a crucial venue for South Africa to strengthen its position as a global investment hub and demonstrate the progress of its structural reforms. Alongside business leaders and government officials, the delegation will engage with international stakeholders to further the country’s economic and social priorities.
