The Speakers’ Forum will hold its quarterly two-day meeting in Pretoria tomorrow and Friday to discuss the South African Legislative Sector’s (SALS) programmes, cooperation and means of strengthening the sector’s efforts to improve people’s quality of life by executing their mandate progressively better.
Issues lined up for discussion include the European Union partnership agreement, reports on numerous international engagements, a proposed sector Gender Summit, an update on the SA Association of Public Accounts Committees, and progress made in finalizing legislation aimed at regulating the inter-legislature collaboration.
The Speakers’ Forum oversees the management and coordination of the legislative sector programmes. It is composed of the National Council of Provinces Chairperson, Speakers of the National Assembly and nine provincial legislatures, as well as their Deputies.
Other discussions that are scheduled to take center-stage at the two-day meeting include the revised concept of the SALS Oversight Summit; the complementary oversight of Parliament, Provincial Legislatures and Institutions Supporting Democracy (ISDs); the Parliamentary Institute and Training for Members and Officials; and the update on the Sector Collective Bargaining efforts particularly the 2023/2024 salary negotiations process.
