Seychelles Delegation Attends 3rd Ordinary Session of the 6th Pan-African Parliament
A delegation from Seychelles participated in the official opening of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) held in Midrand, South Africa, from June 24 to July 5, 2024. The delegation, led by Hon. Terence Mondon, included Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, Hon. Wavel Woodcock, and Hon. Conrad Gabriel, along with Desk Officer Ms. Georgina Balette.
The session was organized under the African Union’s theme: “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa.” PAP President H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira officially opened the session, highlighting the attendance of distinguished guests, including the President of the Arab Parliament, Hon. Adel Bin Abdulrahman Alasoomi, and Her Excellency Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, CEO of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism.
During the session, members engaged in the Eastern Caucus meetings, which were chaired by Hon. Mondon, as well as their respective committee meetings. Key discussions and presentations included topics on Pan-Africanism, the role of the PAP, performance reviews, and budget considerations. Reports were tabled on various issues, including the 14th Conference on Women’s Rights, the Draft Model Law on Cooperatives, Climate Change, the Regional Parliamentary Conference on Governance, and efforts to promote the ratification and implementation of AU instruments.
Members also debated the draft Model Law on Gender Equality and Equity in Africa and participated in seminars focusing on enhancing African family values and strengthening traditional medicine through research and innovation.
Hon. Wavel Woodcock, serving as the 4th Vice-President of the Youth Caucus, presented the activity report of the Caucus and encouraged greater youth engagement and parliamentary involvement. The session concluded with the presentation and adoption of final resolutions and recommendations.
