Cape Town, 1 December 2024 – Four Chairpersons of the National Assembly’s oversight committees, part of the Economics Cluster, will brief the media on Monday, 2 December 2024, as part of the 7th Parliament’s Weekly Committee Cluster Media Engagement programme.
The briefing will cover the critical work undertaken by these committees since the start of the 7th Parliament, with an emphasis on strengthening oversight, enhancing public participation, and advancing legislative efforts in sectors under the cluster’s purview.
This marks the second session of the weekly media engagement series, which began on 25 November. The following Chairpersons will participate in the briefing:
- Mr. Mzwandile Masina, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry, and Competition, will discuss initiatives aimed at accelerating economic transformation and fostering inclusive growth through legislative and oversight actions.
- Mr. Selelo Selamolela, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, will provide updates on the transformation of the maritime sector through the Merchant Shipping Bill and address road safety concerns during the festive season.
- Ms. Dina Pule, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, will focus on farmer development, the performance of agricultural entities, and the protection of children from unsafe food practices.
- Mr. Mikateko Mahlaule, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources, will discuss ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining and the committee’s enhanced oversight of entities within the sector.
This weekly programme offers journalists and citizens a valuable opportunity to engage with Parliament’s oversight work, understand its impact on governance, and promote public accountability.
