NCOP to Host Africa Day Lecture Focused on Inclusive Economic Growth
Cape Town – 19 May 2025 — The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will commemorate Africa Day with a public lecture on Thursday, 22 May 2025, under the theme: “Pioneering Africa’s Inclusive Economic Growth Through the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Agreement: Optimising Our Levers for Building the Africa We Want.”
The 2025 lecture marks the official launch of the P20 nationwide sectoral build-up activities, aligned with South Africa’s G20 Presidency agenda. The event is intended to foster deeper dialogue between state institutions, international bodies, and civil society to promote a more coordinated approach to shared development challenges.
Key objectives of the lecture include promoting inclusive participation in development discussions, spotlighting South Africa’s long-term priorities within national and international frameworks, and advancing strategic collaboration to achieve Africa’s development goals—particularly those of developing nations in the global south.
The P20 initiative, which aligns parliamentary oversight with G20 commitments, aims to integrate legislative perspectives into global governance. By doing so, it seeks to enhance political accountability, increase public awareness, and support implementation of international agreements at the national level.
