Parliament’s upcoming week features President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Annual Address to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), discussions with Economics Cluster Ministers, and debates highlighting World AIDS Day and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

In alignment with its commitment to accountability and transparency, Parliament will also launch its Weekly Committee Cluster Media Briefings, providing insights into the ongoing work of parliamentary committees.

The first media briefing will focus on finance oversight committees, including:

  • Standing Committee on Public Accounts
  • Standing Committee on Finance
  • Standing Committee on Appropriations
  • Standing Committee on the Auditor-General

Tuesday, 26 November 2024

  • National Assembly (NA) hybrid plenary (14:00):
    • Debate on World AIDS Day under the theme “Equal rights, equal access to quality care for all”.
    • Consideration of the Division of Revenue Amendment Bill.
    • Debate on the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate pension fund violations by municipalities and private security companies.
  • NCOP plenary:
    • Debate on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
    • Discussion under the theme: “Waging a concerted battle against crime to build safer living and business spaces for our people.”

Wednesday, 27 November 2024

  • Economics Cluster Ministers will participate in a hybrid question-and-answer session in the NA (15:00).
  • NCOP hybrid plenary (14:00): Five executive statements are scheduled:
    1. Transport: Stabilizing Transnet and reforming logistics.
    2. Sports, Arts, and Culture: Revitalizing cultural industries.
    3. Home Affairs: Digital transformation for improved public services.
    4. Police: Crime prevention and strengthening the police force.
    5. Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation: Update on the Draft Medium-Term Development Plan (2024–2029).

Thursday, 28 November 2024

  • President Ramaphosa will deliver his Annual Address to the NCOP (14:00), with the theme: “Dedicating our efforts towards reducing poverty and tackling the high cost of living.”
  • The NA plenary will discuss multiple finance-related bills, including the Rates and Monetary Amounts Amendment Bill and the Global Minimum Tax Administration Bill.

Friday, 29 November 2024

  • NA mini-plenary sessions (10:00 – 12:15):
    • Reports on the oversight visits to entities such as Ithala SOC Limited and the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant.
    • Assessments of stakeholder workshops, police training academies, and higher education financial reviews.
  • Joint Programming Committee meeting (08:30): Final preparations for next year’s parliamentary schedule.

Committee Meetings (26–29 November 2024)

A total of 46 committee meetings are planned this week, addressing a range of key topics including governance, infrastructure, economic policy, education, and national security.
