Parliamentary Governance Oversight Committees to Brief the Media
Cape Town, 9 June 2025 – Chairpersons of Parliament’s Governance Cluster Oversight Committees are scheduled to brief the media today as part of the 7th Parliament’s ongoing Committee Cluster Media Engagement Programme. The briefing will focus on efforts to promote accountability, transparency, and fairness in governance.
The engagement, taking place at 11:00 in the Good Hope Chamber of the Parliamentary Precinct, offers an update on the work conducted by each of the committees since their last public briefing.
Dr Zweli Mkhize, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, will provide updates on:

The 2023/24 local government audit outcomes, and
-
Matters related to the winter initiation season.
Mr Jan de Villiers, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, will address:

The issue of ghost workers in the public service, and
-
Initiatives to enhance youth employment within the public sector.
Mr Wouter Wessels, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on the Auditor-General, is expected to discuss:

Threats to the Auditor-General of South Africa, and
-
Challenges with municipal payments to the Auditor-General’s Office.
This briefing is part of Parliament’s continued efforts to strengthen public understanding of its oversight and legislative functions, and to provide a platform for transparent dialogue on key governance issues. The Committee Cluster Media Engagements aim to highlight how Parliament holds the executive accountable and supports good governance practices throughout the country.
