Presidential Spokesperson Briefs Media on President Ramaphosa’s Upcoming Engagements
Pretoria, 5 June 2025 – Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya today briefed members of the media on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s upcoming public engagements, which span a wide array of national and international priorities, including governance, economic development, youth empowerment, and international diplomacy.
Engagement with Parliament on Higher Education Committee Proceedings
President Ramaphosa has requested a detailed report from the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, following her appearance before the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training on 30 May 2025. The President noted that public commentary and broadcast excerpts of the proceedings may not provide the full context of the engagement.
The President’s request includes a report on the process followed in appointing board members to Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), which were a central focus of the committee’s inquiries. According to the Presidency, this forms part of broader expectations that Ministers, Deputy Ministers and senior public sector executives engage with Parliament and other oversight institutions with professionalism, transparency and respect.
Meeting with the Judiciary – 6 June 2025
President Ramaphosa will host Chief Justice Mandisa Maya and members of the judiciary at his official residence, Mahlamba Ndlopfu, in Pretoria. The meeting will focus on the operations of the superior courts and broader challenges facing the judicial system. The President will be joined by Ministers responsible for Justice and Constitutional Development, Finance, and Public Service and Administration.
Black Business Council Summit – 6 June 2025
Later the same day, President Ramaphosa is scheduled to address the Black Business Council Summit Gala and Awards Dinner at the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre in Ekurhuleni. The summit, taking place from 5–6 June, is being held under the theme “Socio-Economic Transformation and Inclusive Growth in the context of the Government of National Unity (GNU), G20 Presidency and the Changing Geopolitical Dynamics.”
Government ministers are expected to participate in a series of panel discussions, covering issues including access to funding for black-owned, women-owned and youth-owned businesses, and strategies for economic recovery and growth.
Youth Engagement Visits – 10 June 2025
In observance of Youth Month, President Ramaphosa will engage with beneficiaries of the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI) and the Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES) on 10 June. He will visit three sites in Pretoria: Sefako Makgatho Primary School in Saulsville, the South African Creative Industries Incubator (SACCI) in Eersterust, and the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) in Pretoria East.
These visits will showcase implementation models and partnerships that are providing youth with skills and employment opportunities. Media will be granted access to the school visit, while coverage of the other two sites will be coordinated by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
Africa Green Hydrogen Summit – 12–13 June 2025
President Ramaphosa will address the inaugural Africa Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town, hosted by the Department of Electricity and Energy. The summit aims to foster regional collaboration and market development in the emerging green hydrogen economy. It builds on previous national summits held in 2022 and 2023 and arrives at a critical juncture for Africa’s clean energy transition.
G7 Leaders’ Summit – 14–17 June 2025
From 14 to 17 June, the President will travel to Kananaskis, Canada, to participate in the G7 Leaders’ Summit. The meeting will focus on global energy security, critical mineral supply chains, and infrastructure investment. South Africa’s participation is aligned with its G20 Presidency and offers an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between G7 and G20 member states.
Parliamentary Oral Replies – 19 June 2025
On 19 June, President Ramaphosa will appear before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Cape Town to respond to questions from Members of Parliament. This engagement serves as a parliamentary mechanism for executive accountability.
Constitutional Court 30th Anniversary – 20 June 2025
The President will deliver a keynote address at the event marking 30 years since the establishment of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. The occasion will celebrate the Court’s role in advancing constitutional democracy and upholding the rule of law.
World Council of Churches Summit – 20 June 2025
Also on 20 June, President Ramaphosa will participate in the World Council of Churches (WCC) Summit in Johannesburg. The President will reflect on the role of the church in addressing social and global challenges. The WCC, which played a historic role in opposing apartheid, now includes over 600 million Christians from 120 countries.
SACU Heads of State Summit – 27 June 2025
President Ramaphosa will travel to Windhoek, Namibia, to attend the 9th Summit of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). The meeting will assess progress on the 2022–2027 SACU Strategic Plan. South Africa is set to assume the rotating SACU Chairmanship in July 2025.
International Financing for Development Conference – 30 June 2025
On 30 June, President Ramaphosa will lead the South African delegation to the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain. The summit, hosted by Spain and the United Nations, will address reform of global financial systems in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
South Africa will also host a side event on “Forging a common agenda to achieve debt sustainability in developing economies,” aimed at advancing solutions to structural debt and liquidity challenges across the Global South.
